Beşiktaş Municipality (Istanbul) presents, between October 26th and December 5th
“Bedri Baykam in Collections” exhibition at the Beşiktaş Contemporary Art Gallery
“Bedri Baykam in Collections” presents a selection of Baykam's major works between 1983-2009. Baykam, is one of the most internationally well-known Turkish artists, who has had many exhibitions in Turkey, France, USA, England and Germany this year. In this mini-retrospective of his, works from his different periods “New Expressionism”, “Inner Landscapes”, “Stripe Paintings”, “Censorship and Torture”, “Real Fakes”, “Kuvay-ı Milliye”, “The Years of 68”, “Transparent Layers”, “Girly Plots”, “Horse Series” and “4-Ds” are exhibited. Visitors can see 97 large scale works from the 28 year period over which the show extends.
“Bedri Baykam in Collections” was launched on October 26th at the Beşiktaş Contemporary Art Gallery with a cocktail, to which the Beşiktaş mayor Mr. İsmail Ünal also attended.
Recently, the favorable developments in the painting have encouraged many knowledgeable collectors to share their collection via different projects. Hence, “Bedri Baykam in Collections” is the first in this sort, to take place in Turkey. This exhibition also carries another significance, which is, being the bearer of today's collector profile. The collectors, whose pieces are exhibited at this exhibition are the ones who, have over the years, collected many of Baykam's works accordingly with his artistic periods. “Bedri Baykam in Collections” consists of some of the artist's masterpieces of the artist who has brought countless innovations to the Contemporary Turkish art scene during his career. This sort of exhibition, over the years, will prove its significance for the collectors, art lovers and artists over the years.
